2026年1月22日 第367回通常例会報告/367th Regular Meeting

1月22日の例会は、Wさんの入会式からスタートしました。新宿クラブの雰囲気を気に入っていただけたとのことで、これからWさんとともにクラブをさらに盛り上げていきたいと、身の引き締まる思いでした。

この日の例会は、TM Yの進行のもと、角筈地域センター7階で開催されました。通常とは異なり、全編英語で、4本のスピーチと4本のテーブルトピックという特別構成で進行されました。

スピーチセッション

1人目：TM W  

以前日本語で披露された「レンタルフレンド」という日本独自のサービスをテーマにしたスピーチの英語版でした。内容の面白さに加え、ジェスチャーや間の取り方がさらに洗練され、日本語版から大きく進化した印象でした。

2人目：TM S  

「失敗が人生を豊かにする」というテーマで、得意のワインの表現を交えながら、ユーモアたっぷりに語られました。会場全体が引き込まれる魅力的なスピーチでした。

3人目：TM H（新宿クラブ会長）  

ご自身の宝物であるテディベアを修理するために高額な費用がかかるものの、それでも直す価値があるというお話でした。人にとって大切なものに対価を払うという行為は、その人が何を大切にし、どんな価値観を持っているかを映し出す——そんな深いメッセージが込められたスピーチでした。

4人目：TM S2  

こちらも日本語版を英語にブラッシュアップしたスピーチで、エネルギッシュな語り口が印象的でした。最後は「迷ったらGo！」を英語で “When in doubt, go!” と力強く締めくくり、参加者全員で声を合わせるというライブのような盛り上がりを見せました。

テーブルトピックセッション

休憩を挟み、4名によるテーブルトピックが行われました。テーマは「When in doubt, go（迷ったら行け）」の体験談。

1人目：TM W  

スピーチに続いての登場。内容はもちろん、効果的なジェスチャーがさらにスピーチを引き立てていました。

2人目：筆者  

直近の旅行での空港での出来事をお茶目に話したつもりですが、緊張のあまり細かいところはあまり覚えておりません…。

3人目：TM T  

Tさんの少しレアな恋愛エピソードで、心が温まる内容でした。

4人目：TM O  

障害のある方からキャンディー購入をお願いされた際のエピソードを紹介。何が正解かわからない中で揺れ動く気持ちを丁寧に表現されていました。

多くのゲストの皆さまにご参加いただき、誠にありがとうございました。また次回お会いできるのを楽しみにしています。

Meeting Report – January 22

Our meeting on January 22 began with the induction of TM W. He appreciated the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Shinjuku Club, which led him to join us. We look forward to further developing the Shinjuku Toastmasters Club together with him.

The meeting, led by Toastmaster of the Day TM Y, was held on the 7th floor of the Tsunohazu Community Center. Unlike our regular meetings, the program consisted of four prepared speeches and four table topics.

1st Speech – TM W

TM W delivered a speech on the unique Japanese “rental friend” service. This speech had previously been presented in Japanese, but for this English version, he developed new expression and effectively incorporated gestures, expressions, and body language.

2nd Speech – TM S

TM S spoke about how failure can enrich one’s life. Her analogy involving wine was particularly distinctive, and the speech was filled with humor and subtle wit, reminiscent of bittersweet chocolate.

3rd Speech – TM H (Club President)

Our Club President, TM H, shared a story about her treasured teddy bear. Contrary to the cute image of a teddy bear, the speech carried a profound message. While everyone values different things, what one considers precious often reflects what they find important in life—and, in some ways, their identity.

4th Speech – TM S2

TM S2 delivered a passionate and powerful speech, previously presented in Japanese as well. His speeches are always energetic, unique, and reminiscent of a live musical performance. We hope his dynamic style will lead to strong results in the upcoming speech contest.

After the break, we moved on to the Table Topics session, in which I also participated. The theme was “When in doubt, go.”

TM W delivered another excellent impromptu speech.

I spoke second and did my best to respond to the prompt.

TM T followed with a charming and engaging response.

TM O concluded the session with a thoughtful explanation of a complex emotional situation.
